Trussmas

A Christmas Tree with Truss

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Trussmas Tree project, spearheaded by Colin West, was a design challenge that brought a festive marvel to life in Darwin's George Brown Botanical Gardens. Standing at 8 meters tall, this unique Christmas tree was constructed using standard and custom-designed truss components, showcasing the versatility and aesthetic potential of the Global Truss system.

DEVELOPMENT

Design and Construction: The tree was meticulously designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, including storms up to 187 km/h. It featured a conical shape achieved through innovative truss connections and a custom-designed star that adorned the tree's summit.

Technical Innovation: The project utilized the GT F34 variable junction for adjustable truss connections, a newly developed product that allowed for precise angle adjustments. A special linear truss design was also created to unify the structure at various connection points, topped with a custom spigot adaptor to streamline the assembly.

Impact and Recognition: The tree not only enhanced the festive atmosphere but also stood as a testament to advanced design and engineering. It contributed significantly to the holiday festivities, drawing large crowds and boosting community engagement.
